He made is début at the Networking meeting on Friday 18th May where he is seen introducing some of the members of the group deep in Networking conversation at the Tap Rooms in St Ives. For the past week Olly has been in training for the World Nordic Walking Day walk and the Oxfam 26 Mile Charity walk – Olly was up for the challenge. He was fitted with Nordic Walking Poles, specially designed for him and after a little instruction by INWA Nordic Walking Instructor Mervyn Foster, he was ready to go….
Bright and early on Sunday morning, 20th May, he joined other members of the Cambridgeshire Nordic Walking group to take part in the 26 mile Oxfam Walk from Chilford Halls, Linton in Cambridgeshire. We had 12 members in total taking part at different distances, some doing 7 miles, 12 miles, 20 miles and with the five shown above completing the big one – 26 Miles.
Olly performed well on the walk and at the 15 mile point he had to stop to take on food for additional energy, he can be seen with his flask of tea and a scone with cream and strawberry jam. After a short break he was off again leading the walk across the hilly countryside of south Cambridgeshire.
Although he found some of the tracks were a little steep for him, he managed to complete the 26 miles with only a few little blisters, sore paws and some sore muscles….
So, for his first official outing he did us all proud and he is looking forward to his next adventure whatever it may be. From the members of the Cambridgeshire Nordic Walkers, we thank you for joining us. Olly, and keep up the training…
